Traditional christologies generally turn to the historical Jesus or to the pronouncements of church councils. This book approaches Christology from the perspective of the disciples of Jesus. How did they understand Jesus, and shape their lives in answer to his teachings? What difference did Jesus make for them? In this way, Christology becomes for us a practical discipline rather than a theoretical one: this is how the disciples followed and remembered Jesus. The goal throughout is to help readers understand how we can, using Tilley’s words, “be faithful to our old creeds in this new world.”
